Your hearing aids stopped working, what’s the next step?

Hearing aids are an amazing piece of technology that help  to improve lives and helps people communicate with their loved ones. But when they stop working, what should you do? Here’s a handy guide to follow if your technology stops working.

Step One: Check the battery. This might seem a little obvious, but more often than not, this is the issue. If you have two hearing aids and one of them is working, remove the battery from the one that’s working, and put it in the hearing aid that doesn’t work.  That way you will know that you have put a working battery in the hearing aid.  If you only have one hearing aid, grab a new battery, remove the colored backing, and wait 30 seconds to a minute before inserting. This gives the opportunity for the battery to “charge” up and will help make it last longer. If this still doesn’t help, the problem is most likely not the battery.  If you still feel like the problem is the battery, it’s recommended that you try batteries from a different package. Sometimes, although rare, entire battery packs can be duds. If this is the case, call your audiologist and more than likely they’ll be able to exchange them for a new pack.

Step Two: Check the filter. The filter is a small, usually white, circle that goes in front of the speaker. This helps reduce the chance of wax getting clogged in the speaker and causing an expensive repair.  These should be changed as frequently as they need to, depending on how waxy your ears are.

Step Three: Give us a call or stop in. If you’re having any issues with your hearing aids, don’t hesitate to give us a call. We can get you scheduled with one of our audiologists to have them take a look at your device. We can clean and check them over, and if any repairs need to be made we can send it in at that time. If you’re already in town, you’re always more than welcome to drop them off as well! The audiologist will take a look at them and we can give you a call when they’re ready.

Our promise to you is that we want to help you hear your best at all times. If you’re having any issues or have any questions, please contact us so we can help you!
